Broiler sets, placements continue to exceed 2023 pace

The number of broiler sets and placements is still higher than last year.

According to the USDA, there were 245.524 million eggs in incubation at the end of last week, slightly more than the week before and 1% faster than a year ago, with an average hatch rate of 79.1%.

Broiler placements in meat production stood at 188.877 million head, down slightly from the previous week but up modestly on the year, with these birds moving to slaughter next month.

The next set of annual USDA broiler production forecasts will be released on Wednesday, June 12e.

Arkansas: Sets: 25.678 million eggs, up from 25.507 million a week ago; Placements: 21.335 million units, up from 22.817 million last week

Kentucky: Spawning: 8.199 million eggs, up from 8.057 million a week ago; Placements: 5.815 million units, up from 6.099 million last week

Missouri: Spawning: 8.769 million eggs, up from 8.785 million a week ago; Placements: 5.659 million units, up from 5.09 million last week

California/Tennessee/West Virginia: Sets: 13.422 million eggs, up from 13.436 million a week ago; Placements: 12.231 million units, up from 11.768 million last week
