Huskers collect two All-America Honors on Wednesday – University of Nebraska

Nebraska track and field opened the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday in Eugene, Oregon at Hayward Field, with two athletes earning All-America honors and one claiming a spot in his respective final.

Kevin Shubert captured his first career First-Team All-America honor in the shot put tonight, placing eighth with a throw of 64-5 (19.63 m). The senior from Omaha, Neb. has been named a Second-Team All-American twice, at the 2021 and 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Darius Luff was an automatic qualifier for the 110m hurdles final, winning his semi-final with a time of 13.31. He will look for a title on Friday at 8:42 PM (CT). This is the senior’s fourth NCAA finals appearance in his seven NCAA Championship appearances.

Garrett Kaalund was named a Second-Team All-American in the 200 meters, finishing 13th with a time of 20.38. The sophomore from San Antonio, Texas has broken the school record multiple times, with the most recent record coming during the NCAA West preliminary round with a 20.25.

In the javelin, Dash Sirmon (221-8, 67.57m) and Tyler Brown 218-2 (66.50m) finished 19th and 20th.

The women will begin competition tomorrow, with Hillevi Carlsson leading Nebraska action in the hammer throw at 5:00 PM (CT). Field events can be streamed throughout the evening on ESPN+, while running events can be watched on ESPN2.
