The Coleman Cougars softball team loses to Fall Creek in the state semifinals


MADISON – Coleman fell victim to a pair of big innings on Thursday in his first visit to the WIAA state softball tournament.

Top-seeded Fall Creek scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the third in a 12-0, five-inning victory over Coleman in a Division 4 semifinal against Goodman Diamond.

Coleman, the No. 4 seed, finishes the season with a 21–5 record.

Fall Creek improves to 29-2 and will play Cuba City of Auburndale in the championship game Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Coleman was limited to two hits by Fall Creek pitcher Grace Herrem, who walked none and struck out six in five innings.

Madelyn Straub singled to right-center in the second inning for Coleman. Norah Kinzinger hit a two-out triple to center field in the fifth inning.

Elena Raffesberger had two hits and two RBI for Fall Creek. Herrem doubled and also drove in two runs.

Coleman won the Marinette & Oconto Conference title this season and advanced to state with a 4-2 win over Random Lake. The Cougars were on an eight-game winning streak on Thursday.

The loss ended the high school careers of three Coleman seniors: Courtney Den Ruyter, Shakira Marks and Alyssa Hoida.

Den Ruyter allowed only five hits and struckout five batters in four innings against Fall Creek, but was injured with nine walks.
