Dover car show from 7 to 9 June with 2,000 vehicles, races and children’s games

The world’s largest hot rodding association, which organizes car shows across the United States, is hosting its first event in Delaware this weekend.

Goodguys Rod & Custom Association will host the Grundy Insurance Mid-Atlantic Nationals presented by R&M Performance June 7-9 at Dover Motor Speedway, 1131 N. Dupont Highway.

Opening hours are from 8am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday 7 and 8 June, and from 8am to 3pm on Sunday 9 June.

“Goodguys hosts major car shows across the country, but this is its first time in the Mid-Atlantic and we are honored that it has chosen the Monster Mile as its host location,” said Michael Lewis, communications manager at Dover Motor Speedway.

Founded by lifelong hot rodder Gary Meadors in 1983, Goodguys has more than 70,000 active members worldwide. Although members receive discounted tickets to the show, you do not have to be a member to attend. The event is open to the public.

“To organize a major car show you need three things: a team on site that has experience in successfully hosting a major event, a region with many car enthusiasts and sufficient parking. We have that in abundance in Dover,” said Lewis.

During the event, an estimated 2,000 vintage cars and trucks will fill the Monster Mile for three days of fun, including hot rods, muscle cars, classic cruisers and trick trucks. Participants who show their cars will have the opportunity to drive around the high-altitude 1.6 km race circuit on Saturday evening.

All three days include a swap meet, the “Cars 4-Sale Corral” and the manufacturers’ midway, where attendees can speak directly to the product experts and see their latest parts.

Races and competitions

Timed races will be held all three days, with CPP Autocross qualifying Friday for the Mid-Atlantic Shootout on Saturday. Racing continues on Sunday with the All American AutoCross Shootout.

A tire-smoking burnout competition will be held on Saturday.

Nitro Thunderfest gives visitors the chance to hear and feel the wail of vintage exhibition dragsters revving engines.

After the race on Sunday, a parade will take place with more than 80 prize winners from the show.

Pro builder Mark Giambalvo of Creative Rod and Kustom will be on hand to select the builder’s top 10 best rides.
