Todd Mark Balling – Obituaries at Larkin Mortuary

Todd Mark Balling, beloved son of Karla Ann Balling and Chris Mark Balling (Carole), returned to his Heavenly Father on the afternoon of May 31, 2024, with his brother Taylor and sister Emily holding his hand, after four years of treatment for colon cancer. Todd was born on June 2, 1969 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister, brother-in-law Brad Salisbury, his uncle Mark Scott (Farrel) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Todd is preceded in death by his brother Thomas Balling, sister Laura Balling, grandparents, Anna Goodrich, Mark and Marjorie Balling, and aunt Myra Platt and nephew Spencer Platt.

Todd’s family moved many times due to his father’s military career. When he was four, he moved from Salt Lake City to Hawaii with his mother and sister. He thrived in Hawaii and had many friends; most of his primary education took place in Hawaii. At age 9, he and his family were back in the air, flying back to Utah en route to Newport Rhode Island, with two new brothers, and a stop at Disneyland just for fun. The family then made their journey to Newport. This was somewhat of a homecoming, as we had lived in Newport when Todd was a baby. He attended high school in Newport and had several close friends. He bred rabbits to show at the local fair. His family moved again, this time back to Salt Lake, where Todd was very active in the Scout program, earning his Eagle Scout and graduating from East High School and Seminary.

After graduating from high school, Todd served in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the people he served. Upon returning home from his mission, he joined the Navy. He served on the USS Constitution, followed by the USS Kitty Hawk. He had a brief shore duty in Okinawa, Japan and his last assignment was in Kingsville, Texas. He was at sea for most of his naval service.

After leaving the Navy, he returned to Salt Lake where he continued his education and graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Internet security. He worked several jobs and everyone he worked with loved him for his kindness and work ethic. His last job was at Capstone Title and Escrow, where he enjoyed working and was loved by everyone. Todd had a sweet, calming spirit and was a peacemaker. People liked to be around him. He always had a joke to tell or something that made others laugh. He was quiet and spoke very little, but his big smile, firm handshake and hug conveyed his love.

He will be missed by his family (especially his mother), friends and colleagues. We love you friend.
