Hampshire’s Barton Peveril College plans ‘simplified’

The college, close to Southampton Airport, provides education to approximately 4,800 students aged 16 to 18.

The campus consists of the Chestnut, Hampshire, Mountbatten, Nobel, Peveril, Rose and Science Center buildings, and a library.

If the application is given the green light by planners, the current downspouts within the steel frame will be removed and replaced with new ones.

These new downspouts will be strategically constructed to connect to existing surface water drainage systems.

The planning statement stated that the changes would result in a “simplified” facade design and appearance.

It added: “By removing an incongruous external feature and thereby providing a more consistent design approach with the adjacent Chestnut Building in the southern and northern parts of the Hampshire Building.

“The white aluminum box gutters and downspouts will blend in with the existing color palette of the building’s facades.”

The public consultation is open until July 12.
