19 last-minute getaways on the 4th of July

“Jackson Hole in the summer is one of my favorite memories,” says Wu. “The temperatures are just right. A cool breeze, a warm sun that makes it warm enough to jump in a lake, without the too cold Northern California air I’m used to. It is a summer paradise.” The small town at the foot of the Grand Teton Mountains has a full Independence Day itinerary, starting with the Lion’s Club pancake breakfast on the town square. After eating your weight in flapjacks, set up a vantage point on the main street to watch the annual 4e of July parade – riders, tram wagon, floats, dancers and all. In addition, the Grand Teton Music Festival takes place all summer long, featuring artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Jennifer Koh and Third Coast Percussion. Of course, if you have time before the weekend is over, there are two dazzling, majestic national parks within a short drive.
