Dudley King obituary – VA

Dudley Gene King CHESAPEAKE – Dudley Gene King, 68, of the 1800 block of Candy Lane, passed away peacefully at his home on May 8, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born in Spartanburg, SC and was the son of the late Henry and Juanita King. He retired as a fire chief from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Fire Department after twenty years of service. He also retired from the United States Coast Guard after twenty years. He was the Tidewater Regional Commander of the North-South Skirmish Association. He was a Mason and Shriner and had previously been involved in the Clown Unit and the Fire Department. He was also a proud father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn King; a daughter, Denise Love and her significant other Ervin Marchant of Chesapeake; a son, Brian Spicer and wife Terri of Suffolk; a sister, Melody Jones and husband Darryl of South Carolina; and two brothers, Todd King of Virginia and Rick King and wife Nicki of Rock Hill, SC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, John Love, Michael Love, Melissa Spicer, Lauren Spicer, Brian Spicer Jr., Mindy Willis, Kenny Parsons and Cory Parsons; a great-grandson, Ronnie Willis; a lifelong friend, Dave Disbennett of Elizabeth City, NC; and a sister-in-law, Jimi Miltier. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Dana (Bubba) Love. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, with Rev. Tom Potter officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jeffrey T.
