Mother charged after her newborn baby’s umbilical cord tested positive for drugs

A South Carolina mother was arrested this week after her newborn baby’s umbilical cord tested positive for illegal narcotics, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Heather Bryce Boykin, 27, of Marion, was charged with endangering a child or causing harm.

According to deputies, Boykin also tested positive for illegal narcotics twice during her pregnancy.

They added that she turned herself into the Marion County Detention Center and was released on a $20,000 bond pending her court appearance.
