North Carolina baseball’s super regionals game against West Virginia ended with a Chapel Thrill.

Tar Heels center fielder Vance Honeycutt hit a two-run walk-off home run to give North Carolina an 8-6 victory over the Mountaineers on Friday night, also giving it a 1-0 lead in the series.

North Carolina entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 6-5 before Luke Stevenson tied the game on a solo home run to open the inning. Alex Madera later singled to give the Tar Heels another baserunner before Honeycutt came in with two outs and a called game.

Honeycutt, one of North Carolina’s best players this season, started the series with a .309 batting average with 24 home runs, 62 RBIs and a 1.095 OPS. He also went 2 for 5 at the plate on Friday with two runs scored and two RBIs.
