Las Vegas, Nev. – John Janawicz is still number 1 after that Friday the first day of match play at the 2024 USBC Senior Masters. He won his first match by 122 pins and then moved past No. 33 seed Parker Bohn III 729-707 to remain one of 16 bowlers remaining in the winners bracket.

Janawicz is on the left side of the field, drawing an opener against No. 49 Joseph Losurdo on Saturday. The biggest upset of the day came on the right side of the bracket when No. 62 Sam Ventura rolled a 299 in his third match against No. 3 Dan Knowlton as a fire alarm sounded at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. That didn’t faze Ventura as he stepped up and delivered his first strike in the 10e to secure the victory and he roared to the delight of the crowd. After the 709-675 victory, Ventura won his next match by 56 pins, and he remains the lowest ranked player in the winners bracket.

There are 16 players in the contender’s elimination group. All remaining bowlers will head to the lanes on Saturday at noon Eastern. All Bracket matches consist of a three-match total pinfall, with the winner advancing until the top five are determined for the Stepladder Finals taking place on Sunday at 1:00 PM Eastern.
