Lincoln softball defeats Jefferson to advance to SD state championship

The Lincoln softball team pulled off a complete game shutout of Jefferson to advance to the state finals.

The Patriots scored 15 goals and defeated the Cavaliers 8-0 in the state semifinals.

Lincoln senior pitcher Madison Evans had a fantastic all-around performance on Friday. She pitched all seven innings, struckout fourteen and gave up only three hits. In the batter’s box, she had two hits in three at-bats and had a game-high three RBI.

Sara Mathison and Paxton Dekkers each hit homeruns. Mathison hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to extend the Patriots’ lead to 7-0 and Dekkers’ home run was the final run of the game.

Lincoln will take their undefeated record and advance to the state finals with the chance to cap their perfect season with a state championship. The Patriots will face the winner of the Harrisburg-Washington semifinal on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
