San Antonio detective honors fallen officers with annual 5K run | Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – San Antonio Police Department Detective Leigh Holderby has been participating in the National Police Week 5k for eight years in a row, raising money for nonprofits Officer Down Memorial Page and Concerns for Police Survivors.

Each year, Holderby dedicates her run to fallen San Antonio Police Department officers. The list of officers she has honored includes Officer Bobby Deckard in 2016, Detective Ben Marconi in 2017, Officer Miguel Moreno in 2018, Officer Stephanie Brown in 2019, Detective Mario Moreno in 2020, Officer Robert Davis in 2021, Officer John Wheeler in 2022 , Officer John Rocky Riojas in 2023 and Officer Edrees Mukhtar in 2024.

Holderby’s fundraising efforts support the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP) and Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS), two nonprofit organizations that honor fallen officers and provide support to their survivors.

One of the officers she honored, Officer Edrees Mukhtar, died from injuries sustained while responding to a call for service. His patrol car slid into a wet spot on Medical Drive, near I-10, and collided with an oncoming pickup truck. Mukhtar had served on the San Antonio Police Department for 19 months and was 28 years old at the time of his death.

“This mission is close to my heart and I greatly appreciate your support. Thank you for helping me achieve my goal!” Holderby said.
