Scattered thunderstorms expected in West Central Texas

Severe storms are possible this afternoon and evening, especially south of the line stretching from San Angelo to Brownwood.

Major threats include large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lightning. In addition, heavy rainfall can lead to local flooding.

09.00 Radar update: A line of showers and storms continues to move through the Big Country, south to near Ballinger and Coleman, approaching Brownwood until 10:30 am. The strength of the storms has weakened and should continue to weaken for a while, but that is the case. still produces very heavy rainfall. This rain is heavy enough to likely cause flooding of city streets, low-water crossings, and other poor drainage areas. Rain should continue to move southeast through the morning.

Today: There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially after 1 p.m. The weather will be mostly sunny, with a high near 91 degrees. In the afternoon the wind turns from the south to the northeast at a speed of about 5 km/hour. Precipitation amounts could range from one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.

This evening: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected before 10 p.m. Skies will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68 degrees. The easterly wind is blowing at 5 to 10 km/hour.

Wednesday: The day will start out mostly cloudy and gradually become sunny, with a high near 92 degrees. The wind is from the east at a speed of approximately 5 km/hour.

Wednesday night: The night will be mostly clear, with a low around 71 degrees. The easterly wind with a force of 5 to 16 km/h will turn to the south-southeast after midnight.

Thursday: The weather will be sunny, with a high near 97 degrees. The wind from the south is blowing at a speed of about 5 km/h.

Thursday evening: Skies will be clear, with a low around 72 degrees. East-southeast winds will be 5 to 10 km/h.
