At least 27 people shot at the block party in Akron, Ohio

At least 27 people were shot when gunfire broke out at a block party in Akron, Ohio, according to witnesses and local officials. One of the victims was confirmed dead and no arrests were immediately made.

The incident happened just after midnight on Sunday, when dozens of shots were fired in quick succession at a birthday party in Akron, near the intersection of Kelly and 8th Avenue, about 27 miles (44 kilometers) south of Cleveland.

The sound of the gunfire could be heard on surveillance footage from a nearby home.

Akron police confirmed that at least 27 people had been shot, including a 27-year-old man who was pronounced dead. Some victims were taken to hospital by private vehicle and their conditions were not immediately known.

According to a photographer from broadcaster WEWS, more than thirty evidence markers were visible at the scene when police investigated the shooting. A firearm was also found at the scene. No arrests were immediately made.

There is no word yet on a possible motive for Sunday’s mass shooting. Police have asked anyone with information to call detectives at 330-375-2490 or call Summit County Crime Stoppers at 330-434-COPS.
