Obituary of Harold Pelow – Canton, Collinsville, Unionville, Torrington, CT

PELOW, Harold I. Harold I. Pelow, 79, of Collinsville, husband of Clarice (Gilbert) Pelow for 54 years, died Friday (December 12, 2008). Born in Danville, Vermont, son of the late Frank and Margaret (Morrison) Pelow, he lived in the St. Johnsbury area for many years and moved to Collinsville 43 years ago. He served in the US Army Air Corp. Mr. Pelow was employed at Hartford Hospital for 31 years and after retirement for 14 years at Stop and Shop in Unionville. He was a strong family man and volunteered with his son’s activities as a little league coach and Boy Scout Troop #177 in Collinsville. After his retirement, he became an avid fan and supporter of all his grandchildren’s activities. Growing up on a farm in Vermont, he learned to love the outdoors and became an avid fisherman throughout the United States, even making a special trip to Alaska. Camping and traveling with his wife Clarice were favorite retirement activities. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tony and his wife Lynn Pelow of Unionville, and Evan and his wife Laurie Pelow of Torrington; five grandchildren; Emilye, Scott, Kurt, Matthew and Samantha Pelow; two sisters Anna Hawkes of Unionville and Gloria Quatrini and her husband Francis of St. Johnsbury, VT; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Donald, Jack and Milton Pelow. Services will be held in Vermont in the spring. There are no calling hours.
