Badgers volleyball to open season with Louisville showcase

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin volleyball team will kick off the 2024 season at the AVCA First Serve Showcase on August 27 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.

The one-night showcase features four of the top programs: Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska and Wisconsin.

The Badgers and Cardinals will be featured in the second game of the evening, following Kentucky and Nebraska, beginning at 6:00 PM CT. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN 2.

The last time Wisconsin faced the Cardinals in the regular season was in the 2014 season opener, where Wisconsin swept Louisville 3-0.

The last meeting between the two teams was the 2021 NCAA National Championship, with Wisconsin coming out on top 25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9. The Badgers have an all-time record of 8-1 against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals finished the 2023 season with a 27-5 record (conference 15-3). And saw their season end at the hands of Pittsburgh. Louisville is coached by four-time AVCA Coach of the Year Dani Busboom Kelly, who is entering her eight season as coach.

Wisconsin finished with a 30-4 record (conference 17-3). Wisconsin lost to Texas in the National Semifinals.

Wisconsin is coached by Kelly Sheffield, who is entering his 12th season as coach.
