Joyce Perkins obituary – Vernon, NY (1921-2012)

VERNON – Joyce E. Perkins, 90, formerly of State Route 5, passed away late Friday evening, July 27, 2012, at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.

She was born on December 26, 1921 in Clinton, NY, the daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude (Senior) Malloy and was a graduate of Clinton High School. She received her nursing degrees from Faxton Hospital and Syracuse University.

On August 28, 1948, Joyce and Arthur Perkins were married at St. Mary’s Church of Clinton and shared that marriage until Mr. Perkins’ death on April 21, 1989.

Prior to her retirement, Joyce served as director and associate director of nursing at various healthcare facilities with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Arizona, New Mexico and South Dakota.

She was a member of the Oneida Chorale, Catholic Daughters of America, and attended Holy Family Church in Vernon and St. Helena’s Church in Sherrill.

Surviving are her five children, Michael Perkins and Patricia Perkins both of Tucson, Ariz., John (Cindy Garrow) Perkins of Oneida, Rita (Clark) Isachsen of Tucson, Ariz. and Art (Debbie Curtis) Perkins of Vernon; four grandchildren; six great-granddaughters and one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call Monday (today) from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon, NY. Mrs. Perkins’ Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Church of the Holy Family, Peterboro Street, Vernon. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton.
