Softball live score Florida vs. Oklahoma, updates, highlights from the 2024 Women’s College World Series

For two Women’s College World Series programs, the entire season comes down to Tuesday.

Florida and Oklahoma meet in a winner-takes-all semifinal in Oklahoma City, with the winner punching in their ticket to the final series. It comes after the two programs split the first few matches in the best-of-3 series.

The Gators’ offense came alive at the right time as the Florida bats kept their season going with a 9-3 victory on Monday in Game 2. Skylar Wallace belted two home runs while Reagan Walsh launched one of his own. Kendra Falby even recorded the first inside-the-park home run during the Women’s College World Series since 2014.

No. 2 Oklahoma is looking to secure its chance to etch another jewel into its storied history. The Sooners have won the past three national softball championships and are looking to make it a historic four in a row. Meanwhile, No. 4 Florida has its eyes on its first finals berth since 2017, when the same match took place in Oklahoma City. The Gators fell 7-5 in overtime, losing to the Sooners that year.

The winner will face No. 1 seed Texas in the final series after the Longhorns knock off No. 8 Stanford.

Will the Gators get revenge for 2017 and stop the Sooners dynasty at three, securing a shot at a title? Or will Oklahoma continue its dominance of the diamond market and return to the final stages of the competition?

The Sporting News will follow live updates from Tuesday’s seminal Women’s College World Series game between Florida and Oklahoma.

Florida vs. Oklahoma live updates, Women’s College World Series highlights

(All times East)

2:11 PM: HOMERUN! Erickson releases Maxwell’s rise ball and sends it into the left field stands. She gets one against her former team! And it gives the Gators a 2-0 lead!

Florida 2, Oklahoma 0

2:10 PM: Korbe Otis provides a fielder’s choice. One on, one away. Erickson on the board.

2:09 PM: Wallace is always a threat on the basepaths. You’d have to imagine that sooner or later Tim Walton will try to take advantage of her speed today.

2:08 PM: Skylar Wallace steps up to the plate to lead things. She proceeds to coax a five-pitch walk. You have to imagine that Patty Gasso’s coaching staff has made it abundantly clear that Wallace is a problem at the plate.

Foreplay

2:00: Kelly Maxwell takes the ball for the Sooners. Here we go…

1:45 PM: Here’s a look at both teams’ starting lineups ahead of today’s rubber match.

1:30 PM: Many (eccentric) fans from both sides make the trip to Oklahoma City for this. Let’s hope for their sake that it is a modern classic.

12:55 pm: One of the biggest storylines to watch for is Jocelyn Erickson, the former Sooner whose ascendancy as Florida’s most dangerous hitter has put the Gators on the brink of history. For more on Erickson’s decision to trade Boomer maroon for UF’s lush blue-orange, check out this story from TSN’s Brendan O’Sullivan.

12:45 pm: We’re hoping for a much smoother day at Devon Park – OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City. Rain may fall in the region later in the day. But for now it should be pretty clean.
