2024 New Jersey International Film Festival Preview – (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — The 29th Annual New Jersey International Film Festival will take place May 31 to June 9, 2024 on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays. The Festival will be a hybrid one as it will be presented online as well as with in-person screenings at Rutgers University. All the films will be available virtually via Video on Demand for 24 hours on their show date.

Saturday, June 8 – State Theatre New Jersey 2024 Benefit Gala features performance by Jay Leno. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — State Theatre New Jersey will host its annual Benefit Gala on Saturday, June 8, 2024. The gala, whose proceeds are essential for STNJ to continue to make world-class arts programming affordable and accessible to individuals from all ages and backgrounds in our diverse New Brunswick community and beyond, will take place at the historic State Theatre. The evening includes dinner, dancing, a silent auction, and a performance by comedian Jay Leno.

Sunday, June 9 – Outpost in the Burbs presents Jill Sobule at Van Vleck House & Gardens. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) — Outpost in the Burbs presents Jill Sobule at Van Vleck House & Gardens on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 4:00pm. Weather permitting, this concert will be held outside in the gardens. Tickets are $30.

Monday, June 10 – Count Basie Center for the Arts presents five-time GRAMMY winner Keb’ Mo’ on June 10th. (RED BANK, NJ) — Count Basie Center for the Arts presents five-time GRAMMY winner Keb’ Mo’ with special guest Phillip-Michael Scales on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 7:30pm. Tickets range from $26-$69.

MUSIC

Wednesday, June 5 – NJPAC presents Bonnie Raitt. (NEWARK, NJ) — Bonnie Raitt and members of her longtime touring band are bringing the “Just Like That…” tour to New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) for a performance on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 7:30pm. Raitt is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique style blends blues, R&B, rock, and pop. After 20 years as a cult favorite, she broke through to the top in the early 90s with her GRAMMY-award winning albums, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw, which featured hits, “Something To Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me” among others.

Thursday, June 6 – Chris Stapleton’s “All-American Road Show” to Come to Camden and East Rutherford. (CAMDEN, NJ) — Chris Stapleton’s “All-American Road Show” tour will have two performances in the area in 2024. Stapleton will be at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on Thursday, June 6 with special guests Marcus King and Nikki Lane; and at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Saturday, June 8 with George Strait and special guest Little Big Town.

Thursday, June 6 – The Newton Theatre presents Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam. (NEWTON, NJ) — The Newton Theatre presents Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 8:00pm. Whether you’ve lived your life with this music as the soundtrack or are a modern concert enthusiast, Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam is bound to leave you much more fulfilled, delighted, and buoyant— and that much closer to the brilliance of the music of Dave Mason.

Thursday, June 6 – New Jersey Symphony’s 2023–24 Season Finale features Daniil Trifonov Playing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F. (NEWARK, NJ) — The New Jersey Symphony presents the 2023–24 season finale classical concerts featuring pianist Daniil Trifonov playing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F, with Music Director Xian Zhang conducting four performances from Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 9, 2024. Performances take place in New Brunswick, Princeton, Red Bank, and Newark.

Friday, June 7 – 2024 Princeton Festival Opens June 7th with Opera Superstar Angel Blue. (PRINCETON, NJ) — Two-time GRAMMY Award®-winning soprano Angel Blue opens this year’s Princeton Festival on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 8:00pm. Her star power and glorious voice set in motion this 16-day showcase for the performing arts which includes fully-staged performances of Mozart’s comic opera Così fan tutte, Broadway cabaret with Santino Fontana, orchestral music, Baroque and chamber concerts, dance with American Repertory Ballet, a Juneteenth celebration, and more.

Sunday, June 9 – Afro-Peruvian Rhythms at June Jersey Jazz LIVE! in Madison. (MADISON, NJ) — The Forbidden Tropics band, led by Perth Amboy-based guitarist Alejandro Ataucusi, blends Afro-Peruvian rhythms with harmonic elements of jazz. The Afro-Peruvian styles evolved from the music of the African slaves brought by the Spanish to Peru during the 17th century. The band will be bringing its festive music to the Madison, NJ, Community Arts Center on Sunday, June 9, 2024 as part of the New Jersey Jazz Society’s Jersey Jazz LIVE! series.

THEATRE

Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder”. (MADISON, NJ) — The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) will open their 62nd season with the Tony Award-winning musical comedy A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, marking the theatre’s first musical in over a decade. Performances will run from May 15 through June 9, 2024 at FM Kirby Shakespeare Theatre on the campus of Drew University.

Lantern Theater Company to Close 30th Anniversary Season with William Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors”. (PHILADELPHIA, PA) — Lantern Theater Company will close its 30th anniversary season with The Comedy of Errors, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to produce the timeless stories of William Shakespeare for both the general public and local school students. Lantern Artistic Director Charles McMahon directs an ensemble cast of Lantern veterans, including Morgan Charéce Hall, J Hernandez, Dave Johnson, Brian McCann, Lee Minora, Kishia Nixon, Matteo Scammell, and Zach Valdez. The Comedy of Errors runs Thursday, May 16 through Sunday, June 16, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Theater in Center City Philadelphia.

Luna Stage presents “Queen of the Night”. (WEST ORANGE, NJ) — Luna Stage presents Queen of the Night by travis tate, directed by Lucas Pinner, running Thursdays-Sundays May 16 to June 9, 2024. Billed as “a story of queerness, Blackness, masculinity and the challenges of camping with family,” this honest, funny, heartwarming play explores themes of family, history, and reconciliation.

Music Mountain Theatre presents “Sweet Charity”. (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) — Music Mountain Theatre (MMT) presents Sweet Charity, the classic 1966 musical, weekends from May 24 to June 9, 2024. It is the seventh mainstage show of MMT’s 2024 season.

Crossroads Theatre Company presents “Fences” by August Wilson. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) — Crossroads Theatre Company presents Fences by August Wilson from May 29 through June 9, 2024 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC). Experience the transformative power of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning masterpiece, directed by Crossroad’s Artistic Director, Ricardo Khan.

Surflight Theatre presents “Million Dollar Quartet”. (BEACH HAVEN, NJ) — Surflight Theatre will open their 75th Season of Broadway at the Beach with Million Dollar Quartet from May 30 through June 16, 2024. If you grew up listening to any of the hitmakers that were discovered by Sam Phillips, you won’t want to miss out on seeing Million Dollar Quartet – a musical based on the auspicious meeting between four of the greatest rockers of all time in 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis. The men were Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, and for one night only they jammed together.

Gateway Playhouse presents “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. (SOMERS POINT, NJ) — Gateway Playhouse presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – the first musical of its 2024 mainstage season – across two weekends, May 31 to June 2 and June 7-9. Joseph features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The production will be double cast at Gateway will performances are at 7:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:00pm matinees on Sundays.

Kelsey Theatre presents “Bright Star” – the Steve Martin and Edie Brickell Musical. (WEST WINDSOR, NJ) — Get ready for a captivating, toe-tapping journey through the American South when Maurer Productions OnStage presents the Steve Martin and Edie Brickell musical Bright Star May 31-June 9, 2024 at the Kelsey Theatre on Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) West Windsor Campus.

Magnolia Productions and CHAOS Theatre Company present “Proof” by David Auburn. (LONG BRANCH, NJ) — Magnolia Productions and CHAOS Theatre Company present Proof by David Auburn at New Jersey Repertory’s Studio Theater across two weekends (May 31-June 2 and June 7-9, 2024). Proof was the winner of the 2001 Tony Award® for Best Play and Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Paper Mill Playhouse announces cast and creative for “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”. (MILLBURN, NJ) — Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the full cast and creative team for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, featuring a book by Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award nominee Douglas McGrath and words and music by Gerry Goffin & Carole King and Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil. Casey Hushion will helm the production, with choreography by Jennifer Werner and music direction by Wendy Bobbitt Cavett. Beautiful will play June 5 to July 3, 2024 at Paper Mill Playhouse.

New Place Players to present “The Masque of Night” in Hopewell. (HOPEWELL, NJ) — New Place Players will present a limited New Jersey engagement of critically acclaimed The Masque of Night, directed by Janina Picard and Craig Bacon, June 7-8, 2024 at the enchanting Hopewell Mountain Christian Church. This “innovative” Romeo and Juliet cabaret offers a unique and intimate experience for theater enthusiasts as the venue’s interior balcony, grand piano, original bell, and seating for forty guests create an enchanting atmosphere that complements the magic of Shakespeare’s timeless tale.

The Lord Stirling Theater Company presents “The Wisdom of Eve” – a tale of ambition, jealousy, and fame in New York’s theater world. (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) — The Lord Stirling Theater Company will present The Wisdom of Eve in the English Barn Theater at the Farmstead Arts Center across two weekends (June 7-9 and June 14-15, 2024). This is a tale of ambition, jealousy, and fame in New York’s theater world.

Playhouse 22 presents Award-Winning Musical, ‘Memphis’. (EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) — Playhouse 22’s 65th season closes this month with the musical Memphis which runs from June 7-23, 2024. From the underground dance clubs of 1950’s Memphis, Tennessee, this is a Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love.

Two River Theater presents August Wilson’s “Gem of the Ocean”. (RED BANK, NJ) — Two River Theater has announced the cast and creative team for August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, the seventh production in Two River Theater’s commitment to stage all ten of Wilson’s visionary epics in the American Century Cycle, directed by San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Award Winner, Delicia Turner Sonnenberg (Appropriate, Trouble in Mind). The production runs June 8-30, 2024.

COMEDY

Saturday, June 8 – NJPAC presents Comedian John Crist. (NEWARK, NJ) — Comedian John Crist wrapped 2023 as a Top 10 Worldwide Comedian (Pollstar). He spent the last year on his Emotional Support Tour, which he extended into 2024, and has just added 10 more dates to the tour including a performance at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Saturday, June 8 at 7:00pm.

Tuesday, June 11 – 2024 Jersey City Comedy Festival. Tickets are priced from $20 to $45 and are available for purchase on the JCCF website: jerseycitycomedyfestival.com.

FILM

2024 Lighthouse International Film Festival Preview. (LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ) — The 2024 Lighthouse International Film Festival (LIFF) takes place June 5-9, on beautiful Long Beach Island. In addition to watching films, festival goers can rub shoulders with producers and directors, attend filmmaker panels, master classes, and party into the night at special events. The festival will screen more than 110 documentary, narrative, short, horror, thriller, and surf films.

(SUMMIT, NJ) — Reeves-Reed Arboretum will kick off its summer season of the arts and celebrating its 50th Anniversary with its annual garden party ART in the Garden on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. This year the 50 year old public garden will be taking it back to the 1970s in homage to the year it was founded as a public arboretum and education resource in 1974.
